Boeser Nets Hat Trick and Sheehy Notches Three Points in World Junior A Challenge Tune-Up

KINDERSLEY, Saskatchewan — The U.S. Junior Select Team topped Canada West, 6-3, in a pre-tournament tune-up for the 2014 World Junior A Challenge. Brock Boeser (Burnsville, Minn./Waterloo Black Hawks) notched a hat trick and Tyler Sheehy (Burnsville, Minn./Waterloo Black Hawks) tallied three points in the win.

In the opening stanza, at 6:00, the U.S. struck first courtesy of Kyle Connor (Shelby Township, Mich./Youngstown Phantoms) with help from Dakota Joshua (Dearborn, Mich./Sioux Falls Stampede) and Charles Curti (Mound, Minn./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders). Canada West evened the score at 16:05 of the period.

The second frame was all Team USA. Boeser netted the go-ahead goal at 7:50, assisted by Hayden Shaw (Woodbury, Minn./Waterloo Black Hawks) and Connor. Four and a half minutes later, Andrew Oglevie (Fullerton, Calif./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) scored with assists from Robby Jackson (Alameda, Calif./Chicago Steel) and Anthony Angello (Manlius, N.Y./Omaha Lancers) to make it 3-1.

Canada West struck first in the third period, just under two minutes in, to pull within a goal. However, 1:42 later, Sheehy put the U.S. back up by two goals. Boeser then scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-2. Canada West answered with a goal 12 seconds later, but Boeser capped his hat trick with less than two minutes to play, giving Team USA its final 6-3 margin.
