CALGARY, ALBERTA — The U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team lost the first game of the Under-18 Series versus Canada, 3-2. Alyssa Gorecki (Monee, Ill.) and Rebecca Gilmore (Wayland, Mass.) scored for Team USA and Brittany Bugalski (Lake Worth, Fla.) made 28 saves.

"We settled in as the game went along, made the necessary adjustments and competed hard," said Joel Johnson, head coach of the U.S. Women's Under-18 Select Team. "I was very proud of the effort and look forward to the next game.”

After a scoreless first period, Canada struck first at 0:44 of the second with a power-play goal from Lindsey Agnew.

The U.S. went point to point and then Grace Bizal (Minnetonka, Minn.) fired a shot that Gorecki picked up the rebound on and stuffed in for the equalizer midway through the period.

Again on the power play, Canada netted the go-ahead goal with under five minutes to play.

In the third stanza, Canada notched another tally for a 3-1 lead.

On the power play in the final five seconds of the game, and the goaltender pulled, the U.S. rushed up ice and Gilmore ripped a shot from the high slot to make it 3-2 and that is how the game would end.

The U.S. and Canadian under-18 squads faceoff again tomorrow (Aug. 22) at 8:30 p.m. ET.
