CRIMMITSCHAU, GERMANY – The U.S. Under-17 Select Team lit the lamp 10 times en route to a shutout victory over host country, Germany, in today’s Five Nations pre-tournament game. Sixteen different players recorded at least a point, while the defense allowed just 11 German shots on goal.

The Five Nations tournament takes place Wed.-Sun. (Aug. 13-17) and includes teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the U.S.

“It was solid from start to finish for our first game together,” said Cary Eades, head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Select Team. “We utilized our speed and quick puck movement to generate many quality scoring chances. Any time you get a shutout, you have to have a very strong checking game, and we had good defensive contributions from all of our guys.”

The U.S. opened the scoring just five minutes into the game with a goal from William Knierim (Skokie, Ill.), assisted by Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) and Garrett Wait (Edina, Minn.). In the final three minutes, Team USA notched two more, starting with a marker from Samuel Rossini (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and finishing with a power-play goal from Ty Farmer (Ofallon, Mo.).

Team USA dominated the second stanza, racking up five goals. Timmy Gettinger (North Olmsted, Ohio) kicked off the scoring at 7:46 with a short-handed marker, assisted by Farmer. On the power player, Rossini followed up with his second of the game, assisted by Henry Crone (Cedar Hill, Texas) and Riley Tufte (Ham Lake, Minn.). Just over 12 minutes in, Bellows tallied a goal of his own to make it 6-0. Then, Gettinger netted another with help from Crone and Mitchell Mattson (Grand Rapids, Minn.). Crone and Mattson teamed up again for the period’s final goal in the last minute.

In the third period, the U.S. tallied twice more. Keenan Suthers (Macomb, Mich.) got on the board with help from Gettinger and Andrew Peeke (Parkland, Fla.) three and a half minutes in. And with less than four minutes to play, Kailer Yamamoto (Spokane, Wash.) tallied the last goal for the 10-0 final.

Goaltending duo, Ryan Equist (Lakeville, Minn.) and Dayton Rasmussen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) split game duties and only needed to stop 11 shots.

Team USA kicks off Five Nations competition Wednesday (Aug. 13) against Slovakia. Stay tuned to USAHockey.com for game recaps.
