Girls Select 14: Day One Recap

The 2014 USA Hockey Girls’ Select 14 Player Development Camp began its first day of games on July 21 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. 

In the first contest of the day, Team Black scored a 3-2 victory over Team Green.  Team Green’s Lily Farden opened the game with a first period goal before Team Black’s Katherine Tresca and Jillian Parsons posted first period markers to make it 2-1. Team Black’s Megan Jacobs sealed the win at the end of the first period with the game winning goal. Anne Berry completed the scoring for Team Green with a goal in the second period.

In game two, Team White gained a 3-1 win over Team Red. Elie Fallieras scored in the first period to give Team White a 1-0 lead. Team Red tied the game in the second period with a goal by Olivia Branch before Sommer Ross and Kiersten Goode chalked up second period goals for Team White to make the final 3-1. Abigail Levy and Phoebe Autio combined for 15 saves in the game and allowed just one goal in the win for Team White.

The first day ended with a 6-1 victory by Team Blue over Team Gold. Caroline Diffore hit the power play game winner for Team Blue in the closing minutes of the first period. Grace Lee also had a goal and an assist in the win for Team Blue. Team Gold’s lone goal was scored by Eleri Mackay in the second period.  Gwyneth Phillips and Taylor Stadelli combined for 13 saves in the nets for Team Blue.

The eighth annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM, will be staged nationwide Feb. 20-22. More information on the celebration will be coming in the weeks and months ahead.
