The U.S. National Under-18 Team takes on the Czech Republic in its second preliminary round game of the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's Under-18 World Championship. Puck drop is slated for 8 a.m. EDT in Lappeenranta, Finland.

"We kept it positive after a tough loss on Thursday," said U18 forward Jared Fiegl (Parker, Colo.). "We need to stick to our gameplan and eventually it will work out for us. It's time to forget about the game versus the Swiss, learn from it and focus on the Czech Republic."

This is the second game for both squads in the tournament. Team USA was previously dealt a 4-2 loss at the hands of Switzerland on Thursday (April 17), while the Czech Republic began play on Friday (April 18), downing Denmark, 9-2. In the U.S. loss, Jack Dougherty (Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Kyle Connor (Shelby Township, Mich.) lit the lamp, while Alex Nedeljkovic (Parma, Ohio) made 16 saves on 19 shots.

"The team has been really great in helping me adjust, especially playing with guys like (Auston) Matthews and (Shane) Gersich," said U18 forward Kyle Connor, who was named Team USA's best player against Switzerland. "We know what we have to do versus the Czech Republic. We have to play our game and get in front of the net."

Last year, the Czech Republic finished seventh at the U18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia. Through preliminary play, the Czech Republic concluded action with a 1-0-0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record, scoring 15 goals and allowing 13. The Czechs then fell in the quarterfinal round, 6-0, to the eventual gold-medal winning Canadian squad.

In other games today at the U18 World Championship, Canada takes on Germany and Russia squares off with Sweden in Imatra, while Finland and Switzerland do battle following the U.S. matchup with the Czechs.

Match-Up History

The Czech Republic's lone victory over Team USA came on April 20, 2002, a 1-0 defeat in Piestany, Slovakia. The game was the second of the playoff round and the only loss the U.S. suffered en route to the gold medal.
