Duggan Will Be Keynote Speaker At 2014 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Ceremony

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Meghan Duggan, captain of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team and 2011 winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, will serve as keynote speaker for the 17th annual Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Ceremony and Brunch to be held Sat., March 22, at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Conn.

The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey by The USA Hockey Foundation.

Duggan has helped the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team earn silver medals at each of the last two Olympic Winter Games. She has also skated with the U.S. Women’s National Team in five International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championships (gold-2008, 2009, 2011, 2013; silver-2007), seven Four Nations Cups (First-2008, 2011, 2012; Second-2007, 2009, 2010; Third-2013) and one IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series (2011). The Danvers, Mass., native has appeared in 99 games for the U.S. over a span of seven seasons (2007-present), recording 36 goals and 28 assists for 64 points.

Duggan has been a valuable leader for Team USA and has previously served as captain for U.S. squads at the 2011 and 2013 Four Nations Cups, as well as the 2008 Under-22 Series. Additionally, she has been an alternate captain at the 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championship and 2012 Four Nations Cup.

During the 2012-13 season, Duggan won the Clarkson Cup as a member of the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Prior to her professional career, she played four years at the University of Wisconsin of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, capturing three NCAA Division I national championships (2007, 2009, 2011). In 2011, she earned USA Hockey’s Bob Allen Women’s Player of the Year award and was named the WCHA Player of the Year in addition to being honored as the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner.
