INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. - Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) and Josh Sweeney (Phoenix, Ariz.) each scored and goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) turned away 10 shots to help the 2014 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team defeat Canada, 2-1, in the second game of a three-game series at Extreme Ice Center.

"We played a fast, intense game tonight," said Jeff Sauer, head coach of the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team. "Because of our speed, we were able to create offensive chances and not allow Canada to play the way they wanted to play. Overall, we're very happy with the effort tonight."

Canada had the better of the scoring chances early in the contest thanks largely to back-to-back minor penalties on Team USA, but the U.S. managed to hold the Canadians off the board with sound penalty killing and key saves by Cash.

The Americans used the momentum to open the scoring when Farmer found the back of the net at 11:07 of the first frame. After Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.) feathered a pass to the middle of the ice, Farmer gathered the puck and beat Team Canada goaltender Benoit St-Amand with a rising shot from the left circle.

Neither team converted in the middle period despite the U.S. holding a 5-2 edge in shots on goal, but Sweeney cashed in midway through the third stanza to double the Team USA lead. Rico Roman (Portland, Ore.) fed Sweeney on the left side, and he cut to the net and tucked a shot over St-Amand's shoulder into the top corner.

A Brad Bowden goal at 14:09 of the final period cut the United States' advantage to 2-1, but the Americans shutdown Team Canada in the closing seconds to secure the victory

The U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team will be back in action tomorrow (Jan. 11) in the final outing of the three-game series against Canada. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
