Metro West Game - Varsity vs. York (10/24/09)

Huskies Varsity shuts down York 3-0

The Naperville North Varsity team picked up their game last Saturday for a third match-up against York to hand the Dukes their first loss of the metro season with a 3-0 shutout victory.

Sammy Svoboda surprised the York goaltender less than a minute into the game by banking the puck off the boards behind the net to James Benda, who quickly took a shot at the wide open goal, granting the Huskies an early 1-0 lead which lasted throughout the rest of the first period and half of the second before Paul Mascitti scored an unassisted goal to pull North further ahead.

When the third period began the Huskies held a firm 2-0 lead, and less than a minute later a quick goal by Jon DiMatteo, assisted by Max Obriecht, put them in an even better position. The Dukes still held a few desperate cherry-picking attempts up their sleeves, but in the odd event that the Huskies’ strong defense was broken, goaltender Nick Vittori was unbeatable, and when the buzzer sounded he had earned his first shut-out of the season and led his team to a 3-0 victory with a formidable sixteen saves.
