USA Hockey, then known as AHAUS, first bestowed its Citation Award on July 17, 1948, at its annual meeting in St. Paul, Minnesota. The award was given “in appreciation of contributions to the advancement of American amateur hockey.”
Today, a maximum of two Citation Awards can be presented annually. Nominations must be made to USA Hockey's executive director.
