GFHA YOUTH HOCKEY NEWS, AS OF 05/17/12:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No News Is Good News
With the off season in full mode and summer just around the corner, new news comes slow as everyones busy doing summer stuff but we're in the planning stages for this fall. Stay tuned and revisit often.
Pee Wee B Ice Raiders Win League Play-offs
Team Lesser's Pee Wee B Ice Raiders defeated the Southgate Senators, 5-2, to win Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League's Norris Division play-offs. They also finished the regular season in1st in their division. Congratulations to all of the players and coaches for a great season!
Age 8 And Under Hockey & Learn To Skate Programs
With the return of mite hockey (8 and under) this fall, we're still going to offer ADM for 8 and Under (5 to 8 year-olds) along with Learn-To-Skate. ADM is an excellent program for those who want to play and develope skills at their own pace in a non-competitive environment. We would encourage those who want to play mites to also use our ADM program as a low cost option to advance player skills at a quicker pace. Our ADM and Learn-To-Skate are Saturdays and Sundays. For more info, contact Mick Carroll (810) 655-8016 or (810) 210-7811.
Because Of Our Captain, Sled Hockey To Be Added This Fall
.

Aaron told me, "I want to skate." A lot of people tend to forget about all of the kids who are currently being physically challenged because of an injury or one of many other medical conditions. We don't. Because of our honorary captain, #44 Aaron Berry, we're in the planning stages of adding gold medal winning sled hockey to our association for all of the kids who want to play and enjoy the greatest game on earth but think they might not be able to because of their current medical condition. Let nothing stop a kid from particicpating. USA Hockey doesn't and neither do we. Just ask all of the players from our World Champion USA Hockey National Sled Team. We only see a kid who wants to play, have fun, be a part of being on a team, and possibly one day help Team USA win another World title. And we're here to help make that happen. If you want to participate, contact Mick Carroll, Aaron's friend and coach, at (810) 655-8016, (810) 210-7811, or mickcam@aol.com.
If you currently have a disability and think you can't do this, check out the two youtube videos of the Jr. Sled Wings, a team of young disabled hockey players from Grand Rapids, in action... video 1 and video 2.

Our Captains Enjoy A Visit With Their Favorite Team, The Texans!!!

Our Captains, Peter and Aaron Berry, were invited by the Houston Texans to a practice and during the practice, the head coach came over to visit with them and told them they are welcomed anytime they want. With practices being held during school hours, Aaron replied "I'm just going to tell my teachers what the manager said that to come out of school and come to the practice anytime... so for sure they'd let us come out of school!" For more on our captains, please click here.
To view the video from My Fox Houston, which includes one awesome interview with Aaron, click here. My advice to his teachers, you better listen to our captain otherwise you'll hear from me. -Mick Carroll
Speaking of Peter and Aaron being great athletes, I got to view a video of Peter (#31 P-Dog) taking a kick-off, and during the run back, break tackle after tackle to score his first touchdown on his very first touch of the ball in his first season of him and Aaron playing youth football. And they won a championship!!! Click here to view. |

Please support our local economy. Our small businesses and local events need your support more than ever. It works both ways, as we need each other. And there are some great small restaurants, stores, shops, and local community events to enjoy with your family and friends. So go out and eat, shop, get entertained, and have FUN!!!
Just remember, a lot of great small businesses and events have went away. In tough times like we're experiencing now, a lot more could go away. That would be sad because many provide great value, friendly service, and employment opportunties for our community. |
