We are pleased to announce that the permeable paving parking lot is finally open! This long anticipated project boasts many exciting amenities. The Unilock pavers system is an eco-friendly product that allows rain water to seep into the ground rather than adding to the already over saturated sewer system, similar to they way Mother Nature filters water into the earth. It also has a life span several times longer than a conventional asphalt or concrete parking lot and is more esthetically pleasing. The entire center of the lot features a bioswale that will help with the overflow of water. A variety of native plants will also play an important part of this natural filtration process.
The front entrance way has also seen some exciting changes. Enjoy the new seating area that surrounds a signature design snowflake inlay. The special blue brick helps to give a unique and distinguishable look to the snowflake design. In addition, new plantings have been added next to the building along with a French drain designed to move water away from the building. Lastly the flag poles originally next to the building have been moved to the corner of the front entranceway and are surrounded by native plantings.
As a reminder, now that the lot is open please remember to follow all parking restrictions on Waveland Avenue. We also ask that you refrain from disturbing any of the planting areas.
We appreciate your patience throughout this project. We realize at times it was an inconvenience; but the final result was well worth it. Thank you once again for your patience and continued support of the Franklin Park Ice Arena.
