Ames Minor Hockey Assocation (AMHA) was established in the 1977 and has served over 2,500 central Iowa families. Skaters range from three years to 18 years old. AMHA currently has skaters from: Story, Boone, Hamilton, Jasper, Marshall, and Polk counties.

The Ames Minor Hockey Association is governed by its bylaws and policies and procedures under the leadership of a 14-20 member board of directors.  In the fall of 2007 the AMHA board of directors adopted the AMHA 1 Initiative as a decision-making framework and vision for the future.
