When Chicago Mission 19 & Under coach Tony Cachey gathered his team last August, he knew they were going to be good. He just wasn’t sure how good they could be. Cachey and his team will have the opportunity to find out, now that they have advanced to the USA Hockey National Tournament in West Chester, Pa.
There are times when a team’s wins and losses can be misleading. In the case of the 19 & Under California Wave women’s team – the Pacific District C Division champions – that is definitely the case. It’s not easy to figure out how good this team might be based on wins and losses because they spent almost the entire season playing against boys’ teams.
With a record of 36-12-5 on the season, the 19 & Under Buffalo Bisons began the season with the hopes of returning to nationals – albeit in an older division than in the past – and have done just that.
The Ohio Flames 19 & Under team has participated at nationals every year since 1992 and even reached the finals earlier this decade, but qualifying for the trip on the ice is far more special.
Assabet Valley, the 2007 National runner-up, shut the door 2-0 on a game East Coast Wizards squad to punch its ticket to the USA Hockey National Tournament April 2-6 in West Chester, Pa.

The Chicago Mission 19 & Under team entered the Central District Tournament with high expectations. The squad left the tournament with those expectations firmly in place, as the team advanced to the USA Hockey National Tournament with back-to-back victories over the Wisconsin Wild.
Little Caesars prevailed 3-1 over Victory Honda in the 19 & Under Michigan District championship. By winning their fifth Michigan District title in a row, the players on the Little Caesars team improved their season record to 55-11-4.
