People don’t think hockey first when Dallas, Texas, is mentioned. Football rules in that state – especially high school football – but thanks to teams like the 18 & Under Tier I Stars, hockey is becoming a force in football country.

After playing for the Philadelphia Little Flyers in the 2003 12 & Under Tier I National Championships, Adam Berkle is back as one of the leaders of the Atlantic District champion Valley Forge Minutemen for this year’s 18 & Under Tier I National Championships.

The players on the Mid Fairfield 18 & Under Tier I team have an extraordinary year to look back on. The whole roster played for one prep school, 10 players are committed to NCAA Division I programs and two are on NHL Central Scouting’s radar.

The Team Illinois Tier I 18 & Under team had a wild ride through the Central District Tournament, but came out on top and will represent its district at nationals.

Team Maryland won the first two games of a best-of-three series against the Florida Everblades to snare the Southeastern District 18 & Under Tier I crown and advance to the USA Hockey National Championships.

Anthony Hamburg banked a puck off of Juho Olkinuora’s shoulder with 8:23 left, and with 6:36 left Ryan Daugherty ricocheted another off the goalie’s skate to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 win and advance to nationals in Buffalo on April 2.

Belle Tire picked a dramatic way to win the Michigan District 18-under Tier I championship tournament on Sunday at the Taylor Sportsplex.

After starting the season a dismal 1-5, the Los Angeles Selects have run off 15-straight victories – including a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Jr. Kings on Sunday - and have captured the Pacific District 18-and-Under championship.
