Chicago Mission 14 & Under Tier I coach Mike McPartlin has been around a lot of hockey teams as a player and a coach, but he knew early on that he had something special with this year's Mission team.
The Texas Attack have played a lot of top teams this year, building up their resume for the USA Hockey 14 & Under Tier I National Tournament at the Ice House in Hackensack, N.J. So when those strong programs show up, the team that won the Rocky Mountain District championship on March 16 won’t be fazed.
The championship game completed a perfect weekend for the Chicago Mission at the District tourney, held March 14-16 at the Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills, Ill. The next stop is the USA Hockey National Tournament in Hackensack, N.J.
Kevin Loppatto and Devin Mize scored 1:10 apart in the second period and the Texas Attack held off a rally by the Phoenix Firebirds for a 6-2 win and a trip to nationals April 2-6 in Buffalo.
Friday’s 5-3 win, in which Michael Nyitray had two goals and two assists, and Saturday’s 6-1 win gave the Devils the Atlantic District’s berth in the USA Hockey 14-Under Tier I National Tournament in nearby Hackensack, N.J.
