In 2010, the Youth Tier II National Championship Tournaments will be expanded from (12) teams representing each District to as many as (50) teams representing each State at each competitive age level (U12, U14, U16 and U18).  One of the major reasons for expanding the National Tournament centers on the idea of growing the USA Hockey brand by providing more teams/players and parents from across the country the opportunity to participate in our National Tournaments.

Over the past several years we have hosted up to (48) teams at various venues around the country and have proven that the “Super Site” concept can work. Our real challenge then is to create a fair and equitable way to place the teams in properly structured brackets to ensure that the games are competitive and that every team that participates feels that they have a true chance to win a National Championship.

Format for the 2010 Season:

  • Create (4) conferences within each age classification (1A, 2A, 3A and 4A)
  • Crown (4) National Champions (one each at the 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A) levels
  • An Easton Skills Competition for each conference
  • All game requirements including length of periods, penalties, etc, would stay exactly the same as our current National Tournament rules read. We have done this over the past few years with our Super Site concept except now we will host only one (1) age classification at each site.
  • For the first year, each State will be assigned to a conference based on the total youth player registrations from the previous season (see attachment)
  • In subsequent years, States may be seated based on their finish position the prior year or some formula to assure like competition for everyone.
  • The (12) largest States will compete in the 4A conference
  • The next (12) largest States will compete in the 3A conference
  • The next (12) largest States will compete in the 2A conference
  • The final (12) states will compete in the 1A conference
  • Each conference will crown a National Champion

For 2010, the Youth Tier II National Championship sites will be:

12U -  Reston, VA

14U – Wayne, NJ

16U -  West Chester, PA

18U – Rochester, NY

** We are requesting that States commit as early as possible so that we may give the Host organizations plenty of time to plan their Tournament.  For more information or to sign up your State, contact Norm Spiegel at jacole@comcast.net or Kevin McLaughlin at kevinm@usahockey.org
