The Ducks won the USA Hockey Tier II 12 & Under Conference 1A National Championship with a 3-2 double overtime victory against the St. Louis Junior Stars.

While most teams’ players come from one hometown or at least one state, the Pelham Panthers “from” Birmingham, Ala., have a slightly more unconventional team make-up. With a total roster of 13 players — 12 skaters and one goalie — the members of the Pelham Panthers reside in three different states: Alabama, Georgia and Florida. How does a team like theirs find time or a place to practice? The answer, as one team parent put it, is simple — they don’t.

While the Reston Raiders may be the host of this year’s USA Hockey Tier II 12 & Under National Championship in Reston, Va., they were determined to show other teams that they deserved to compete.
