The Breakers claimed the USA Hockey Tier II 14 & Under National title with an 8-0 romp over the Wisconsin Ice Spirit in the National Championship game Sunday at Suburban Ice East Lansing, Mich.

Bay State, which plays the Glenview Stars in the quarterfinals on Saturday, has outscored opponents 17-1, which included a lopsided 12-1 win over Team Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

The Wisconsin Ice Spirit 14 & Under girls’ team was not making a grand statement about gender equity by playing half its schedule against boys teams. It was simply a matter of necessity, coach Tom Hill said.
