• Instructional Program

Welcome to the “Little Hawks” page.

The Monroe Hockey Association is working with the MMSC Management (Rink Management Services RMS) to create a “free” (fully refundable fee) Instructional Program for 2010.  Since the MHA teams are the Ice Hawks, our Instructional Program (IP) is nicknamed the Little Hawks Program.

While it still requires payment to RMS for the program, that payment is fully refundable if the participant joins an MHA team for either the Spring 2011 season or the Fall/Winter 2011 season.  It will be paid as a credit towards the ice bill for the particular season.

The only restriction is that the participant must be born in 2001 or later.  That ensures that the player would be eligible for the 10&Under (Squirt) classification.

Players must also register with USA Hockey.  That is done on-line at:  www.usahockey.com.  If the participant was born in 2006 or later, this registration is free.  Otherwise there is a separate $35 fee that must be paid by credit/debit card at the end of the registration process.

RMS will be running a two-step Little Hawks Program this fall.

The first step is “Pre-IP” and consists of 10 sessions (2 per week for 5 weeks).  The cost is $75, and it is optional.  It will begin in early October and conclude in early November.

The main “IP” program consists of 30 sessions (generally 2 per week for 15 weeks).  The cost is $250, and this is the refundable portion as described above.

Any participant who registers for both the “Pre-IP” and main “IP” will pay $300, which is a $25 discount off the individual program costs.

Participants completing the main “IP” program are eligible to play on an appropriate age-based MHA team in which the fee will be refunded.  Birth years for these teams that will apply for Spring 2011 and Fall/Winter 2011 are:

    • 6 & Under (Mini-Mite) – 2005 and younger (all games are half-ice, non-checking)
    • 8 & Under (Mite) – 2003 and younger (all games are currently full ice *, non-checking)
    • 10 & Under (Squirt) – 2001 and younger (all games are full ice, non-checking)

    * Mite competition (by MAHA or USA Hockey rule) may be changing to half-ice.

For further information regarding the MHA, including current costs for recreational (house) teams and Board contacts, please check other sections on this website.  The MHA’s Skills Development Director is Bill Cornett.

Registration for one or both segments of the Little Hawks Program should be done through RMS at the MMSC.  Their phone number is 734-242-1300.
