Disabled Hockey in the PVAHA

The Potomac Valley Amatuer Hockey Association has four programs which specialize in the needs of the disabled athlete. Mike Hickey is also the Affiliate Disabled Hockey and the National Special Hockey Representative. Bob Banach is the Southeastern District representative for Disable Hockey.

 

Special Hockey Washington
Special Hockey Washington exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used by Special Hockey Washington to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.

Special Hockey Northern Virginia

Special Hockey Northern Virginia exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability.  In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability.  The game of hockey is used by Special Hockey Northern Virginia to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment. Male and females of all ages are welcome

Bennett Blazers Sled Hockey
Bennett Blazers Junior Sled Hockey is a program of Bennett Institute Physically Challenged Sports based in Baltimore, Maryland. Athletes travel from all over Maryland and surrounding states such as Pennsylvania and Virginia to train and compete in sled hockey. They are members of USA Hockey and participate in the Mid Atlantic Junior Sled Hockey League which is comprised of 5 teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Their home rink for games and practices is Ice World, which is in Abingdon, Maryland. Any physically challenged athlete ages 18 and under can participate in junior sled hockey.
