Bulldogs Win D-I Title

Five years removed from its last NCAA national championship – at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, no less – the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team is the NCAA champions once more.

The Bulldogs dominated the University of Wisconsin, who they faced just one year ago in the 2007 title game, 4-0 to earn UMD’s fourth NCAA championship in only the eighth year of NCAA women’s hockey existence.

Plattsburgh St. Wins 2008 D-III Title

The top-ranked Plattsburgh State Cardinals defeated No. 10 Manhattanville, 3-2, to claim the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship, at Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday night.  The title is the second consecutive for the Cardinals, who defeated Middlebury at Stafford last season.

Angela Ruggiero is a three-time Olympian. She won gold in Nagano, silver in Salt Lake City and bronze in Turin. She was a four-time all-American at Harvard. And in January 2005, she became the first woman to play for a professional men’s hockey team in a position other than goalie and shares her thoughts about the benefits of Title XI.
