Beginning Hockey

For those of you who are just trying hockey for the first time, the N.O.H.C. features the Mitey-Mite and Mini-Mite hockey programs. Mitey-Mites program is for ages 5-7 with emphasis on learning to skate forward, backwards, cross-overs, stopping and puck handling in a fun environment. Mini-Mites can also be 5-7 years old and should have already mastered the Mitey-Mit

Affiliations

N.O.H.C. is a member of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League, which governs travel hockey though out the greater Cleveland and the N.E. Ohio area USA Hockey's Mid-American District governs this region on behalf of USA Hockey. USA Hockey provides playing rules administrative guidelines, regulates player registration, as well as certification and screening of coaching and on- ice personnel.

Travel Hockey

As a beginning 'hockey parent" you have a choice to play in the In-House recreational league or the travel hockey program. To travel or not to travel is the question? Let it be known that travel ice fees are more expensive and travel hockey is much more time consuming than house hockey. Why is that? Bare in mind that you represent the N.O.H.C. competitively, therefore, you get more ice time for practices. Additionally some travel hockey requires

In-House Hockey

House teams are selected in the first four conditioning and evaluation practices of the house season (usually in October). Their skills are rated, graded, and divided among the number of teams. Team parity is assured as each team receives an equal number of equally rated players. Therefore, no team is stacked with an unfair advantage.

Annual Tryouts

Travel teams are determined through the tryout process. Your child-athletes are evaluated by the perspective coaches and are selected and placed in their respective teams. The skaters are evaluated for their skating skills, puck-handling skills and hockey competitiveness.

History

The N.O.H.C. was founded in 1971 in order to promote the sport of hockey with emphasis on recreational and competitive formats. The N.O.H.C. is a nonprofit organization, and is not affiliated with the City of North Olmsted. Volunteers of our Board of Trustees are elected from the club membership.

Skates should be sharpened every 4-6 hours of play. Wash gear often.

Ice Fees

Ice fees are determined by the level of play, division of play, the number of players, and the amount of ice time per team. Therefore it's not unusual for ice fees to vary from year to year. To see this years fee schedules please click here
