Coaching Education

Updated 11/15/08

USA Hockey announced that it has added a specific section of its website dedicated solely to the development of goaltenders of all ages. Accessed directly by visitingusahockeygoaltending.com, the site includes detailed information on positioning and mental preparation, downloadable drill sheets for coaches and players, camp information and an overview of the Warren Strelow Goaltender Mentor Program. In addition, a forum entitled, "Ask the Mechanic" is part of the site and gives coaches, players and parents a chance to submit questions that are answered weekly by Joe Exter, goaltending coach for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program

Questions continue regarding the level of coaching education required by USA Hockey. The Coaching Education Program provides clinics and materials to help educate our coaches. In addition the USA Hockey Board of Directors requires coaches attend these training sessions to afford our participants the best possible experience. NOTE - "Effective immediately no coaching changes will be permitted on tournament bound rosters after January 31 of each year without specific approval of the NYS Board of Directors or the Executive Board through the Section VP if no board meeting is imminent. This ruling will eleviate the substantial number of coaching changes which occur prior to state tournaments every year."
