World-Record Crowd Expected For Germany-USA Game to Open 2010 IIHF Men's World Championship

The U.S. Men's National Team has the potential to be part of hockey history when it faces Germany in the opening game of the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship on May 7 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The game, to be played at Gelsenkirchen's football stadium, Veltins-Arena, is expected to draw a sellout and world-record crowd of 75,976.

Joe Sacco, the head coach of the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, has been named an assistant coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, as announced today by USA Hockey. It will be Sacco's first outing as a member of the coaching staff of any U.S. team.

Ron Wilson Named Head Coach of 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team

USA Hockey today named Ron Wilson, the man who led the U.S. to the gold medal in the first-ever World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and the second-winningest active coach in the National Hockey League, as head coach of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team.
