A total of 179 teams from 22 states have already registered for the USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships, it was announced today by USA Hockey. The event, which will take place Feb. 12-14 in Eagle River, Wis., has increased in the number of participating teams every year since its inception in 2006, including hosting 196 teams in 2009.

The 2009 Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championship was today named the recipient of SportTravel Magazine's 2009 SportsTravel Award for the best amateur single-sport event.

The fourth annual Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships, part of Hockey Weekend Across America, came to a close on Sunday (Feb. 15), after setting event records for participating teams (200), number of rinks (20), age divisions (12), states represented (24) and pucks used for the event (3,500).
