U.S. Olympians Molly Engstrom And Chanda Gunn Visit Colorado Springs To Coach Youth Inline Hockey Players; USA Hockey InLines National Girls/Womens Festival At Soc n Roll This Weekend
USA Hockey InLines first-annual National Girls/Womens Hockey Festival featuring two days of competition and training for 36 girls, aged 13-18. Special guest coaches attending are 2006 Olympic bronze medal-winning goaltender Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and defenseman Molly Engstrom (Siren, Wis.). All games will be held at Soc NRoll, (16240 Old Denver Hwy., Monument, Colo). The players and coaches will be housed in the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs dorms.Friday, June 23, 7 p.m. - Competition kicks off at Soc n Roll.
Saturday, June 24, 6:30 p.m. - Parent/Player barbeque at the University Center on the UCCS campus. Players and their parents will get a chance to interact with the Olympians in a social setting on Saturday evening. Media is welcome to attend. Sunday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. - Competition wraps up with the gold medal game between the tournaments top teams. Players, parents and coaches will be made available for interview before or after competition. Chanda Gunn made her Olympic debut in 2006, backstopping the U.S. Olympic Womens Team to a bronze medal at the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. Gunn, who battled epilepsy throughout her hockey career, grew up around inline hockey, spending years coaching at her familys inline hockey rink in Southern California.
Molly Engstrom, a three-time member of the U.S. Womens National Team, competed in her first Olympic Winter Games in Torino. The defenseman completed her hockey career at the University of Wisconsin in 2005, where she was coached by 1980 gold-medalist, Mark Johnson.
